Colour Tips when painting

Layering Colour

Layer more than one colour in a room to create added interest. For example, if you use Matchstick  on the walls, String could be used on the woodwork and a stronger colour such as Cat’s Paw or Mouse's Back  could be introduced on furniture, fireplaces or in the backs of bookcases.

Morgan Hotel

Thanks to Putman we can enjoy an eclectic mix of simple chic. Putman gave birth to the idea of the boutique hotel. These designs can be easily used with the home, the minimal use of colours throughout her designs are cosy, simple chic.

Andree Putman

A legend in her own right, parisian born Andree Putman is one of the
contemporary world's leading interior designers.
Putman has an eclectic background which is why I have taken a  big interest i her.
She began to work in the 1960s as a journalist for the design magazine 'l’oeil'
(eye) and to write the column ‘decoration’ in the 'les cahiers de elle' and
had a career as a marketing consultant in the fashion world.  Ms. putman may
be best known for having assembled a collection of 20th century modern
furnishings to be reproduced by her firm 'ecart international', founded in 1978.

It is largely through ecart's efforts that pieces by at the time forgotten designers such
as eileen gray, mallet-stevens, pierre chareau, mariano fortuny, rene herbst
and jean-michel frank were re-introduced to the design world.
Andrée putman designed the interior of shops for yves st. laurent,
karl lagerfeld, thierry mugler, azzedine alaia, cartier, ebel,
mannequins for barneys, interiors of the concorde for air france.
when ian schrager and steve rubell opened morgans hotel,
designed by ms. putman, in 1984, the notion of the 'boutique hotel'
was born.

The Australian Way

I have never looked into Australian interiors but it came as a suprise to see how Aussie interiors have broadened my horizons on colours and interesting interiors that some designers use.

I always thought that blue was a cold colour especially when used in a bedroom but it works rather well in this room

I love the idea of exposing brick, it also compliments the wooden ceiling in an old fashioned yet modern style.

I have chosen these two images because I want to show you how you can use different materials such as wood and brick in a design. It's cosy and complimenatry to the room and creates an atmosphere within the home.

Painted bricks

Who says you cant paint bricks...these bricks were a terra cotta colour but with ALOT of paint you can paint whatever you want. Start with an ordinary emulsion paint  and then put a satin/oil based paint over it.
